When you seek our services, know that you are responsible for making your own choices and creating your own results.  We offer family counseling and parent coaching services, but do we not offer advice or our opinions as to what actions you should take or how you should live your life.  We are not a substitute for working with a licensed professional or therapist. By contacting us, you agree not to hold us liable for any outcome resulting directly or indirectly from our family counseling and parent coaching services. 
In seeking our services, please know that we offer family counseling and parent coaching services based on our years of experience counseling families.

We are not  mental health professionals – not  psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, or licensed counselors.  We do not diagnose, treat, prescribe for, or cure mental health conditions.

Our services are not appropriate as a substitute for clinical counseling, psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, mental health care, or substance abuse treatment.

Not appropriate for emergency and crisis situations

Our services are not appropriate for certain situations, including emergencies and crises.  If you are experiencing an emergency or crisis, please call 911 or seek help from a mental health professional or health care facility.

“Emergencies” include if you have thought about hurting or killing either another person or yourself, if you have hallucinations (see or hear things that others don’t), if you have delusions (beliefs that others may consider unrealistic), if you are currently abusing or are addicted to alcohol or drugs, or if you are in a life-threatening situation of any kind.

If you feel suicidal, please call 911 or the National Suicide Hotline at 1-800-273-8255.

Confidentiality

Our sessions with you are confidential. Both verbal information and written records will not be shared with another party without your written consent or the consent of your legal guardian.

However, confidentiality will NOT apply when it is necessary to protect you or others from harm, such as in the following situations:

Threat of Serious Bodily Harm to Self or Other
If you disclose an intention or imply a plan of serious bodily harm to another person, I will make reasonable attempts to warn the intended victim and report this information to legal authorities.

If you disclose an intention or imply a plan to commit suicide, I will likewise notify legal authorities and make reasonable attempts to notify your family.

Past Violent Crimes
If I learn that you have committed a violent crime in the past, I may also report this information to legal authorities.

Suspected Abuse of Children and Vulnerable Adults
If you state or suggest that you are abusing, have recently abused, or intend to abuse a child or vulnerable adult, I will report this information to the appropriate social service and/or legal authorities.

Prenatal Exposure to Controlled Substances
I will also report admitted prenatal exposure to controlled substances that are potentially harmful.

Minors/Guardianship
If you are a minor or are under guardianship, I will grant your parents and/or legal guardians the right to access your records.

Subpoenas
I will comply with any subpoena ordering us to provide information about our family counseling sessions to a court of law.

I will likewise honor any other exceptions to confidentiality under the law.

In addition, we cannot guarantee confidentiality when we are communicating via cell phone, cordless phone, fax, e-mail, or computer.  These devices compromise confidentiality.  By understanding the risks inherent in using these devices, you can make an informed choice about when, where, and how to communicate with me.

Minors

If you are not at least 18 years old, you must ask your parents or legal guardian to review and approve the use of our services prior to contacting us.

If you are seeking my services on behalf of a minor, please sign the Waiver of Liability and Statement of Understanding so that my services can be legally provided to your child.
